Mission 4: Give It A Face
Big Question
Can a robot show feelings using only a small grid of lights?
Your Mission
Use the LED matrix to draw a face for your robot brain. The face does not need many pixels. A few dots can still show happy, sleepy, surprised, or worried.
Parts
- Bluepill on breadboard
- LED matrix module
- Jumper wires
Build
Use the same display wiring from the lesson.
Before drawing, check that the matrix can show a simple test pattern.
Connect
- Press **Connect** in ModuLab.
- Open the matrix drawing panel.
- Clear the display.
Try It
Draw a simple face:
- two eyes
- a mouth
- one extra detail, such as eyebrows
Send it to the matrix.
Success Check
- The matrix shows your drawing.
- Most of the face is easy to recognise.
- You can clear it and draw a different face.
Debug
If some LEDs do not match your drawing:
- Send the full image again.
- Clear the matrix and redraw.
- Check that you are using the correct matrix panel.
- Ask whether the lesson uses rows, columns, or a full frame command.
Remix
Make three robot expressions:
- ready
- confused
- victorious
Robot Brain Idea
Robots do not need realistic faces. Simple symbols can still help people understand what the robot is doing.
